Hon. Sarah Achieng Opendi
Minister
State for Minerals
Hon. Sarah Achieng Opendi, is the Minister of State for Minerals in the Republic of Uganda and also a Member of Parliament since June 2016. Prior to this she was the Minister of State for Health – General Duties , a position she held since 2016. She was also the Minister of State for Health-Primary HealthCare/MP, a position she held from 2012 to May 2016. She was also Minister of State for Lands 2011 to 2012.
Hon. Opendi has been part of the team that has worked tirelessly to improve the health sector performance for the last 5years and the Uganda Demographic Health survey Report (UDHS 2016) shows remarkable achievements in reduction of the Maternal Mortality, child Mortality, Immunization coverage, malaria incidence, Fertility rate amongst others. She has been an Ambassador for Merck More than a Mother flagship program- destigmatising Infertility and has championed the Infertility awareness campaigns in Uganda and the Regulatory framework is underway.
She holds a Masters degree in Business Administration and has held various positions in both the Local government and central Government. She worked at the Inspectorate of Government, an Anti Corruption Agency for 8 years at senior level and was also the Deputy Project Coordinator, DANIDA Anti-Corruption Programme (2004 – 2006). She has a distinguished and long experience in politics, management and corporate affairs in the public and private sector.
