Ayse Basak Cinar

Dr. AB Cinar (DDS, MBA, PhD, DSci; Research Fellow and Certified Coach, University of Dundee and NHS Tayside) is a pioneer in the field of coaching for better management of health and well-being for the challenged groups, in particular patients with diabetes type 2 and people in prison. She implemented an international patient-centred coaching intervention to improve the diabetes management and oral health of patients with diabetes type 2 (2010-2015). The project was supported by the International Diabetes Federation, the International Dental Federation, TRYG Fonden and the University of Copenhagen. Dr.Cinar served as an assistant professor at Copenhagen University and was the course director for "Patient Focused Coaching", in cooperation with the certified Master Trainer, Christian Dinesen (2011-2014). She also gave lectures for undergraduate and master's students about implementation of coaching to chronic disease management and dental clinical treatment, respectively at Global Public Health Department,and Dental School, University of Copenhagen (2010-2014). Dr.Cinar is currently working on a project that focuses on positive self-transformations and adoption of healthy behaviours amongpeople in prisonvia health coaching. The training is unique as it is a two stage transformation processes and its implementation is based on team dynamics that prisoners and residential officers are trainedtogether over a 3-months period through experiential learning and 1-1 supervisions. This project is in cooperation with NHS Scotland and Tayside, University of Dundee, Positive Prisons Organizations, Scotland and the prison administration and a professional coaching organization.Dr.Cinar and her team also work in collaboration with NES (National Education Services about health coaching for administrators and health-care providers. Dr.Cinar gives alsolectures about health coaching to undergraduate students. Dr. Cinar has written 22 peer-reviewed articles, 2 book chapters, given 35 presentations and 6 proceedings at international conferences. On 6 occasions she was the invited guest speaker. Dr.Cinar is an internationally accredited ICC (International Coaching Community) coach, and a certified mental training practitioner. Dr.Cinar has over 450 hours of one to one coaching experience and over 200 hours of coaching training. Dr. Cinar bridges the gap between research and practice, and her work represents a new horizon in the coaching profession. She has a passion for coaching, particularly to engage with challenged and disadvantaged groups, and to unlock their innate ability to manage their lives and environment. She encourages them to bring meaning and purpose, both to their life, and their local communities. She implements her coaching practice and training as personal leadership and a socially innovative approach to transform lives.
