Born in Jamshedpur, India in 1951 and acquired degree from Senior Cambridge Board and subsequently Degree in Business Management with Marketing as major from Institute of Management, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in the year 1971.
45+ years of professional career starting from Kolkata as a Marketing Executive with TATA Steel in the year 1971 and subsequently became an entrepreneur in Jamshedpur. Since 1994 practicing as an Expert on Consumer Protection Policies from New Delhi, India.
33+ years in the consumer education and advocacy as a volunteer in the Consumer movement starting from 1983 as the Founder Managing Trustee of the Consumer Guidance Society of Jamshedpur. At present Founder Trustee of Consumer Online Foundation and Healthy You Foundation. Chairman & MD, New Era Patient Friendly Hospital Pvt. Ltd. and Hamara Consumer Dost Private Limited. In 2015, launched a not-for-profit Company "Patient Safety and Access Initiative of India Foundation" to promote Universal Health Coverage and improve accessibility to safe and quality healthcare for all. Publisher and Chief Editor of the English Monthly Consumer Magazine published from Delhi by the name THE AWARE CONSUMER.
18+ years as an International Expert on User (Consumer) Focus on Quality Management Systems. Nominated as a Council Member of the Quality Council of India (QCI). Have been engaged as a short term consultant with UNDP, UNICEF, UNCTAD, WHO, World Bank, GIZ, British Council, DFID, GAIN & EPOS. Invited as a Lead Expert by FSSAI from December 2016. Traveled abroad in more than 34 countries as member of delegations and missions.
Founder GC Member and Former Chairman of Consumer Coordination Council (CCC). As Chairman of CCC initiated several innovative projects with Government of India like the JAGO GRAHAK JAGO Multi-Media Campaign and the Consumer Online Resource and Empowerment Centre (core.nic.in). At present Member of the Inter-Ministerial Monitoring Committee on Misleading Advertisements, Expert Committee on Patient Safety Implementation Program and also the Implementation of the UN Guidelines on Consumer Protection in India.
Former Member of the Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and at present Member of the Central Advisory Committee (CAC) of FSSAI. Member, Pharmacovigilance and Haemovigilance Advisory Committees & Member National Drug Survey Core Expert Committee, Government of India. Member of the Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) of the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) and served as a member of the Mashelkar Committee for Review of Drugs Regulatory System, Tandon Committee on the Scientific and Technological Measures to Counter Spurious and Sub-standard Drugs and Diagnostic Centres in India.
Represented Consumers International (CI) in various international negotiations as a member and head of CI delegations. Elected as a Governing Board Member in August 2016 of the International Alliance of Patients' Organisation (IAPO), which has official relationship with WHO.
